New York Penn Station

Taxis & Rideshare

  • ▶Yellow cab stand on 7th Avenue (33rd Street side) — metered fare, no surge pricing
  • ▶Uber/Lyft pickup: 31st Street between 7th and 8th Avenues (designated rideshare zone)
  • ▶During MSG events, the 7th Ave taxi line can be 20+ minutes — use the 8th Ave or 31st St exits instead
  • ▶Typical fares from Penn Station: Midtown hotels $10–15, Lower Manhattan $20–30, JFK $55–75 (flat rate), LaGuardia $35–55
  • ▶Avoid unlicensed car services soliciting inside the station — use official taxi stands or app-based rideshare

Buses

  • ▶Port Authority Bus Terminal (42nd St & 8th Ave) — 8 blocks north via A/C/E subway or a 15-minute walk for NJ Transit buses, Greyhound, Peter Pan, and OurBus
  • ▶M34-SBS Select Bus Service runs crosstown on 34th Street — connects Penn Station to the East Side, FDR Drive, and Javits Center

Rental Cars

  • ▶Enterprise (315 W 34th St) — 2-minute walk from the 8th Ave exit
  • ▶Hertz (310 W 40th St) — 10-minute walk or short cab ride north
  • ▶Budget/Avis (multiple Midtown locations) — book ahead for weekend availability
  • ▶Consider: do you really need a car in Manhattan? Parking is $40–80/day. Transit + rideshare is usually cheaper and faster

Parking

  • ▶No station-owned parking — this is Midtown Manhattan
  • ▶Icon Parking (250 W 31st St) — closest garage, ~$45/day with online prepay discount
  • ▶LAZ Parking (255 W 34th St) — 1 block from Moynihan, ~$40/day prepaid
  • ▶SpotHero and ParkWhiz apps show real-time pricing and let you reserve spots — prices vary $30–70/day depending on demand
  • ▶Street parking is effectively impossible in this area — don't waste time looking
  • ▶If driving to catch a train, consider parking at a suburban NJ Transit or LIRR station and riding in (much cheaper)

Philadelphia 30th Street Station

Buses
