Every Entrance

Penn Station and Moynihan Train Hall have entrances on all four surrounding streets plus inside Madison Square Garden. The entrance you pick determines how far you have to walk inside.

7th Avenue (Main)

7th Ave between 31st and 33rd Streets

Best for: NJ Transit, LIRR East Side tracks, Subway 1/2/3

Busiest entrance. Avoid during MSG events. Multiple entry points along the block.

8th Avenue / Moynihan

8th Ave between 31st and 33rd Streets

Best for: Amtrak, LIRR West End tracks, Subway A/C/E

Dramatically better experience. Use this for Amtrak departures.

33rd Street

33rd Street between 7th and 8th Avenues

Best for: Quick access from Herald Square, Macy's, and hotels along 33rd

Mid-block entrance leads directly to concourse level. Less crowded than 7th Ave.

31st Street

31st Street between 7th and 8th Avenues

Best for: Access from downtown side, PATH transfer from 33rd St PATH station

Quieter entrance, connects to both underground and Moynihan.

Madison Square Garden

Via MSG lobby on 7th Avenue (33rd Street side)

Best for: Event attendees, connecting from MSG events to trains

Only open during MSG operating hours. Not available during private events or setup days.

Track Layout

Penn Station has 21 tracks arranged beneath the street in an east-west orientation. The tracks are divided into the West End (accessible from Moynihan) and the East End (accessible from the underground 7th Avenue concourse). Understanding the track numbering helps you position yourself for the fastest boarding.

Use the underground 33rd Street connector — follow signs for 'Penn Station / NJ Transit' from Moynihan. Or walk outside via 33rd Street, often faster at rush hour.

Both are at the same level, just east vs center under 7th Avenue. Walk directly through the connecting corridor.

Exit Moynihan onto 8th Avenue, walk east on 33rd Street to 6th Avenue. Or use the underground concourse exit at 33rd & 7th, then walk one block east.

Penn StationMadison Square Garden entrance
1–2 min

MSG sits directly above the underground station. Use the 7th Avenue / 33rd Street exit and the MSG entrance is on the corner.

Penn Station33rd Street PATH station (6th Ave)
5–7 min

Exit at 33rd & 7th Ave and walk one block east on 33rd Street. PATH runs to Hoboken, Journal Square, and Newark.

Penn StationPort Authority Bus Terminal
12–15 min walk

8 blocks north on 8th Avenue. Faster: take the A/C/E one stop from 34th St to 42nd St–Port Authority.

JFK Airport

LIRR from Penn Station to Jamaica Station (~25 min), then AirTrain JFK to your terminal (~10 min). Total cost ~$15.75.

Newark Liberty Airport (EWR)

NJ Transit from Penn Station to Newark Liberty Airport station (~25 min), then AirTrain to your terminal (~10 min). Total cost ~$15.25. Trains run every 10–20 min.

LaGuardia Airport (LGA)

No direct rail. Best option: A/C/E to Jackson Heights–Roosevelt Ave, then Q70-SBS bus to terminals. Total ~60–75 min, $2.90. Or rideshare ($35–55, faster).

Times Square

Walk: 10 min north on 7th or 8th Avenue. Subway: A/C/E one stop from Penn to 42nd St–Port Authority, then walk; or 1/2/3 one stop from 34th to 42nd St.

Grand Central Terminal

1/2/3 to 42nd St–Times Square, transfer to Shuttle (S) or 7 train to Grand Central. ~10 min total. Walking is 15–20 min east on 33rd or 34th.

Brooklyn (downtown)

A/C/E to Jay St–MetroTech (~20 min). Or LIRR to Atlantic Terminal (~15 min, faster but more expensive).
