Station History
Designed by McKim, Mead & White and opened on March 23, 1935, Newark Penn Station replaced an older facility that could no longer handle increasing passenger volumes. The station's Art Deco design features a grand waiting room with a barrel-vaulted ceiling, ornamental bronze fixtures, and terrazzo floors. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.
