Station History
Designed by Daniel H. Burnham and opened in 1903, Pittsburgh Penn Station (originally Pittsburgh Union Station) is a Beaux-Arts gem featuring a stunning rotunda with a 68-foot Guastavino tile dome, terracotta detailing, and classical columns. The station originally served the Pennsylvania Railroad and was a bustling hub for decades. Though intercity rail service declined significantly, the station's architecture has been beautifully preserved and it was designated a Pittsburgh Historic Landmark.
